What Is CoolSculpting?
CoolSculpting is a non-invasive body contouring treatment approved by the FDA in 2010. It works through a process called cryolipolysis, which selectively targets and freezes fat cells in the body area being treated. The controlled cooling delivered by the CoolSculpting device crystallizes the fat cells, causing them to undergo natural cell death.
Over time, the body naturally eliminates these dead fat cells, resulting in a gradual reduction of fat. This noninvasive body sculpting procedure effectively melts away stubborn fat without damaging surrounding tissues.
Benefits of CoolSculpting
- Fewer risks than surgical procedures such as liposuction
- Very few adverse reactions recorded
- Most patients don’t require downtime
- Comfortable, painless procedure
- Natural-looking results
Why We Use CoolSculpting for Fat Reduction

The advanced cryolipolysis technology allows for precise sculpting of the treated area, resulting in a more contoured and toned physique. Ideal Candidates for CoolSculpting
Good candidates for CoolSculpting are men and women who have adopted a healthy lifestyle, but have some stubborn fat bulges or love handles that won’t budge. As this procedure is not considered a weight loss treatment, but rather a body contouring treatment, you should already be close to or at your ideal weight.
If you are carrying extra fat on any of the following areas of the body, CoolSculpting might be a good option for you:
- Abdomen
- Outer thighs
- Chin and upper neck
- Flanks
- Underarms
- Upper arms
- Back
- Buttocks and under the buttocks
However, there are certain conditions where this might not be the best treatment option for you. Your plastic surgeon or dermatologist will be able to determine whether CoolSculpting is a possible treatment for your target area.
Before & Afters
CoolSculpting results are not immediately visible as it takes time for the destroyed fat cells to be expelled from the body. As such, it can take 4–6 weeks to start seeing results. You will continue to see improvements for 12–16 weeks afterward, with some patients even noticing results up to 20 weeks later.
What to Expect from Your CoolSculpting Treatment
The process starts with a consultation with a trained plastic surgeon, board-certified dermatologist or licensed aesthetician. They will determine whether CoolSculpting is a good fit for you based on your areas of concern and create a customized treatment plan.
First, your provider will take photos to establish a baseline from which to judge the effects of the treatment. You’ll lie down on a comfortable table, and they’ll outline the treatment area and apply a gel pad to the area.
Next, your provider will apply the applicator to the area. You will feel a sucking sensation accompanied by intense cold before the area temporarily goes numb. About 10-20 minutes later, your provider will remove the applicator and massage the area to smooth it out and start the elimination process.
On average, each session is 30–90 minutes long. A full session treating multiple areas can last between one to three hours.
Recovery and Aftercare
You can return to all your normal activities after receiving a CoolSculpting treatment, including going to work or the gym.
You may feel slight discomfort in the treated area for a few days afterward. This can include redness, swelling, tenderness, blanching, bruising, firmness, tingling or cramping.
To help speed up recovery, try these aftercare tips:
- Massage the treated area lightly
- Apply a warm compress
- Wear a compression garment
- Wear comfortable clothes
- Stay hydrated
- Avoid sugar, carbs, and processed foods
- Stay active
- Avoid alcohol for at least a week
How Much Does CoolSculpting Cost in Texas?
There are a few considerations that impact the cost and price of CoolSculpting treatments in Texas. The first is the size and number of areas being treated. In Texas, the cost of CoolSculpting treatments can start from $750 if a single applicator is used. Clients spend between $3,000 and $4,000 per session on average.

FAQs
What are the side effects of CoolSculpting?
CoolSculpting is a non-invasive fat reduction procedure with very few side effects. In one study of more than 500 patients, zero adverse effects were reported. After treatment, the patient may experience some temporary irritation, slight discomfort, redness, or swelling in the treatment area. In very rare cases the client may develop Paradoxical adipose hyperplasia (PAH), which can only be treated surgically.
What happens to fat cells after CoolSculpting?
Fat cells are damaged during the cooling period of CoolSculpting treatment. In the following weeks, these fat cells undergo cell death. The immune system, in conjunction with the liver, absorbs and metabolizes the material from these cells. Anything that’s not absorbed is excreted by the body.
Is CoolSculpting a safe treatment?
Yes, CoolSculpting is approved by the FDA as a safe medical treatment. The treatment is non-invasive and carries fewer risks than surgical treatments like liposuction.
Is CoolSculpting painful?
Everyone’s pain threshold is different, and while a CoolSculpting treatment might be uncomfortable it’s not painful. If you experience any pain during your treatment or in the weeks following that can’t be treated with OTC painkillers, talk to your provider.
How many CoolSculpting treatments are required before you see results?
The total number of sessions you undergo is up to you, but we typically recommend at least two. While many patients start seeing results after their first treatment, the second session tends to yield even more dramatic results.
