Say Goodbye to Dry Skin
Winter months bring lower humidity, cooler temperatures, and dryer air. While the weather may feel more enjoyable than the sticky months of the summer, you may begin to notice changes to your skin. Dryer air tends to dry out your skin, resulting in itchiness, flakiness, redness, or roughness.
However, your skin doesn’t have to suffer this winter. Try these tips to keep your skin supple and soft through the season:
1. Hydrate
Staying hydrated in the summer when it is hot outside is easier than remembering to hydrate in the winter. When the temperatures are cooler, you may feel less thirsty than you usually would, and you also may not sweat as much. Feeling thirsty and sweating are typical indicators of needing to hydrate. However, it may be less obvious in the winter, causing you to drink less than necessary.
Drinking water and hydrating yourself is not only necessary for your physical health but your skin’s health as well! Hydration can help your skin maintain a youthful appearance by flushing out toxins, reducing wrinkles, and increasing elasticity. Experts recommend drinking about eight 8-ounce glasses of water per day, which is the equivalent of half a gallon. However, this can vary depending on the person.
2. Moisturize
Moisturizing is a pertinent step in any skincare routine. Moisturizer is responsible for trapping the ingredients from your cleanser and skincare products to make them effective and keep your skin smooth. While you should moisturize your skin during every season, it is sometimes beneficial to switch to a thicker moisturizer during the dyer, winter months. You can also use a protective night cream to help keep the hydration from escaping your skin, leaving it happy and healthy.
3. Apply Sunscreen
Even though the sun’s rays may not feel as strong during the winter, you should apply sunscreen to your face year-round! The sun’s UV rays are harmful and damaging all year, which is why you should continue to apply no less than SPF 30 to your face and hands. If you plan to take a winter trip somewhere snowy, applying sunscreen is even more pertinent as the glare can be very damaging for your skin.
